January 3, 2018 - The Anaheim Ice Kings have announced the 2018 edition of the White vs. Black Kings Classic. For the 10th year, and the entire duration of its conception, the game will be held at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA. This will be the 9th intra-squad game edition, as 2011 was played against the OC Renegades.

In 2009, the Kings hosted the first classic event when the Kings dawned the Purple vs. White. That season, the Kings held the first draft with then Capitan Paul Costello vs. then Alternate Captain Mike Brewster. Costello's team White went on to a 5-2 victory in the largest crowed ever to attend an Anaheim Ice Kings game (250). In the following year, the final purple vs white featured the two captains once again in a rematch. Once again, Costello's team defeated Brewster's team, this time wearing the purples with a 3-0 shutout.

In 2012, the Kings introduced their new colors with the White vs. Black Classic. This game featured the Goodey brothers matching up against each others as they both drafted their teams against each other. This also was the debut of AI Kings Vision, and the first ever LIVE draft. Older brother Mike took out his younger sibling by a 6-4 final.

The success of the brother match-up lead to the following years captains, when Paul and Kevin Costello drafted their teams--once again on a LIVE broadcast. Younger brother Kevin took out his older brother for Paul's first loss as a captain in the classic by a final of 11-5.

In 2014, the Classic had a new idea--Offense vs. Defense. Two of the original players from the 1998 team Tracy Lytle, led team White victorious over Stefano Palazzolo's team black.

In 2015, two of the top defensive guns in Darren Chavez and Frankie Negrette went up against each other. The two line mates went up head to head instead of doubling up as a threat. In the end, 4 goals combined from the Costello brothers (2 each) help lift Chavez's Team Black in first close classic games with a score of 6-5.

Last season, the two alternate captains went up against each other with Team Lytle (White) vs. Team Goodey (Black). Another tight game came down to the wire. Team Goodey jumped on the board with a 1-0 lead, but Team Lytle scored 3 unanswered goals before team Lytle tied in in the dying seconds of the first half for a 3-2 Team Lytle advantage. In the second half, Team Goodey scored scored two goals to jump to take the lead back, but in the end Team Lytle would net to goals in the end, finishing edging out Team Goody and Team Black 5-4.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Anaheim Ice Kings, the two captains will be the only two captains in the history of the team. The first captain Paul Costello will face-off against current captain Mike Brewster. The draft date will be announced at a later date.

The match-up will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at 1PM. Following the Kings Classic, your ticket is good for the AHL match-up with the Ontario Reign, a Los Angeles Kings farm team vs. the Iowa Wild, a Minnesota Wild affiliate. It will be the third annual Pink in the Rink blanket giveaway, presented by San Antonio Regional Hospital for the first 5,000 fans in attendance.

Both Ontario and Iowa are battling to get into a playoff spot, as they are on the outside looking in. However as the season will be hitting the second half when they meet, this game will more than likely have some impact for playoff positioning.

For the first 7 years, the ECHL called Ontario home. However, with the rise of hockey in California, the new 'Triple AAA' equivalent American Hockey League brings high quality professional hockey to the Inland Empire. The Reign / Roadrunners match-up begins at 6PM. Tickets are now on sale! Your ticket includes both games for $15, which is $5 off from the box office price and no service fees.

The games will be held at Citizens Business Bank Arena, located in the heart of the Inland Empire in Ontario. 'The Bank', which opened on October 18, 2008 holds 10,832 for hockey and is operated by the same group that created and owns Staples Center, AEG. The arena is home to the Kings AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign, which name was created by the Anaheim Ice Kings' own Mike Brewster. The Arena also is home to professional Indoor soccer's Ontario Fury and basketball's D league Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario.
