February 10, 2014- The Kings open up the 2014 playoffs on Thursday night but for two Kings players there was another game to be played. The 15th annual all-star game saw line mates Mike Goodey and Stefano Palazzolo represent the Kings for Team South. The Flames Aaron Kovall would start the game on the left wing with Palazzolo on the right wing and Goodey at center. The line looked like they've been playing together for years as there was instant chemistry amongst the three but Team North's defense and goaltending helped them stay on the attack. Team North quickly built a 3-0 lead with goals by Clark, Longo & Heisler. Team South would get a break in the last minute of the period when Casey Cawelti's shot was deflected in the air and over the goalie into the net to put Team South on the board and trailing 3-1 after the first period.

The first intermission brought the skills competition with the fastest skater and puck relay events. Mike Goodey would represent Team South in the fastest skater and would put up the fastest time of 15.9 seconds. The Peterson cousins would also take down the puck relay to give Team South a sweep in the skills competition.

The competition seemed to give Team South all the momentum they needed as they came out of the gate flying to start the 2nd period. After a nice give and go between Kovall & Goodey, Kovall would feed a flying Palazzolo in the slot who one timed a shot top shelf past the goaltender to cut the lead 3-2. With just a minute after Palazzolo's goal, the Cawelti brothers would both score to give Team South a 4-3 lead. A few minutes later Goodey would get on the board as he shot the puck from the blue line looking for a deflection which the goalie never saw and went right by to give Team South a 5-3 lead. Just 35 seconds later that line would be back at it as Kovall redirected a shot in giving Team South a 3 goal lead to end the 2nd period at 6-3 and command of the game.

The 3rd period didn't see much action but Kovall would add another goal on a breakaway deking the goalie to give South a 7-3 lead. Team North would add a goal before the period ended but it wasn't enough as Team South defeated Team North 7-4. The Kovall-Goodey-Palazzolo line was impressive accounting for 4 of the 7 goals and combined for 7 points between the three. The players and fans all had a great time and Stefano Palazzolo agreed "The All-Star game was a blast. A nice little come back, thanks to my line mate (Goodey) and I. Now the focus is fully on winning a championship." Mike Goodey echoed those thoughts. "It was a great experience, especially to have not only your teammate but linemate along side. It was a lot of fun and something needed before getting into playoff mode. Winning the championship is our ultimate goal."

Line mates today, foes tomorrow. Palazzolo, Goodey and the Kings will face the high scoring Cawelti brothers this Thursday to kick off the 2014 playoffs. They then will face their All-Star linemate, Aaron Kovall and the Flames in a game that could determine who moves onto the championship game.
